The Scout Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how The Scout (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services (together, the “Service”).

What the Service does (summary)

The Scout lets football talent create a profile, upload short video clips, and interact with a vertical video feed, comments, likes, saves, and sharing. Club accounts can browse the feed, filter discovery, maintain a scouted players list, and request contact information for players they have scouted, where the product and server rules allow it.

Information we collect

Account and authentication: information from your sign-in provider (for example Google or Apple where enabled), Firebase Authentication identifiers, and account role (for example talent vs club) where applicable.
Profile you provide: username, bio, age, height, playing position, preferred foot, profile photo, and phone number when submitted during talent profile setup or profile edits.
Content and activity: videos you upload (including files stored in cloud storage, thumbnails, duration, and metadata), comments, likes, saves, view-related signals used for counts and feed experience, follows and follower/following relationships, notifications we store for your account, “scouted” relationships between clubs and players, and content you report.
Moderation and safety: block lists (who you blocked or who blocked you, as implemented in the product), abuse reports you submit, and related records needed to enforce policies.
Sharing: when you use in-app share features, our servers may create share links that reference your content so recipients can open it in the app or compatible experiences.
Device and technical data: push notification tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging), and diagnostics or crash information collected through platform and Firebase tooling as configured in the app.

How we use information

Provide and operate core features: feed, video playback, upload (including trimming and compression as implemented), profiles, search, rankings, saved clips, notifications, and in-app navigation.
Run discovery and ranking (for example ordering the feed using engagement, recency, and follow relationships as implemented).
Operate club workflows such as scouting lists and server-mediated contact requests.
Send in-app and push notifications about activity relevant to your account.
Maintain security, detect abuse, respond to reports, and troubleshoot the Service.
Meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
Marketing and social media: we may use content and profile information you make available through the Service (such as uploaded videos, username, and public profile fields) to create editorial and promotional posts on The Scout’s official channels (for example Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok), including weekly features (Player of the Week, Best Goal, etc.) and scouting success stories when a player scouted via the platform joins or moves to a club.

How information may be shared or shown

Other users: profile fields you choose to expose, videos you publish, and social interactions (for example comments and likes) are visible to others according to how the Service is built.
Club contact feature: where the product provides it, a club that has scouted a player may retrieve contact details you supplied (such as phone number) through a server-controlled process (for example a Cloud Function) that is intended to verify authorization before returning data.
Service providers: we use Google Firebase and related Google Cloud services to host and process data, including without limitation: Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage for Firebase, Cloud Functions for Firebase, and Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Sign-in providers: Google and Apple authentication are subject to those providers’ privacy policies when you use them.
Legal and safety: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of users and the Service.
Official social channels: videos, usernames, and related public profile details may appear on The Scout’s official social media and marketing materials as described in our Terms & Conditions. Where practical, we credit your username. You may ask us not to feature you in scouting success posts or request removal of a specific promotional use by contacting thescout.eg@outlook.com (subject: “Scouting feature opt-out” or “Content removal request”). We will respond within a reasonable time and make good-faith efforts to honor valid requests, subject to technical limits (for example content already reshared by others) and legal obligations.

Featuring you on social media

If you use The Scout, you understand that your public uploads and username may be used in our social media and marketing, including highlight features and stories about players scouted through the app. To opt out of scouting success features or request removal of a specific post, email thescout.eg@outlook.com. Deleting your account does not automatically remove content already published on third-party platforms; contact us if you need help with removal requests.

Third-party services

The Service relies on Firebase and platform services as described above. Policy and support pages may open in your device browser and can be hosted separately from the app.

Retention

We retain information while your account is active and as needed to operate the Service. Some information may remain in backups for a limited period consistent with normal operations.

Account deletion

You can request deletion in the app: Profile → menu (⋮) → Delete account (wording may vary slightly by platform). Deletion is intended to remove your account and app workflow data tied to core features (including authentication, profile, uploads, and associated social/activity records as implemented).

Limited operational records (for example security logs) may be retained where legally required or for a short legitimate window consistent with provider capabilities.

Children

The Service is not directed to children below the minimum age required in your jurisdiction without verifiable parental consent where that consent is legally required.

International processing

Firebase and related infrastructure may process data in countries where Google operates data centers. By using the Service you acknowledge that your information may be transferred and processed in those locations.
